skipped a month .. woops .. bite me
1. Etran de L'Aïr - Imouha
Possibly one of the best music videos I’ve ever encountered; fully in love.
The tune itself is equally funky.
Lyrics:
Brave men, wherever you are,
Remain fearless and make use of your courage,
Be well behaved and carry yourself with dignity,
I would like for us to be united, helping each other hand in hand,
Tamashek is my language, Tifinagh is my script,
My saber and my lance are part of my history.

3. Maurice Ravel - Piano Concerto for the Left Hand [Pianist: Hélène Tysman]
“The Piano Concerto for the Left Hand in D major was composed by Maurice Ravel between 1929 and 1930, concurrently with his Piano Concerto in G major. The piece was commissioned by Paul Wittgenstein [brother of Ludwig Wittgenstein], a concert pianist who had lost his right arm in the First World War.”
“When Ravel first heard him [Paul] play the concerto at a private concert in the French embassy in Vienna, he was furious. 'He heard lines taken from the orchestral part and added to the solo, harmonies changed, parts added, bars cut and at the end a newly created series of great swirling arpeggios in the final cadenza. The composer was beside himself with indignation and disbelief.' Later Wittgenstein agreed to perform the concerto as written, and the two men patched up their differences, 'but the whole episode left a bitter taste in both their mouths'.” lol
4. Katsuya Hironaka - Golden Days
Surprise surprise: more ambient!
A delicious, richly textured 90s electronic record.
Based on my research —admittedly quite cursory— this is the only album Katsuya Hironaka released. Shame.
5. Mokira (Andreas Tilliander) - Plee
Really appreciate the way Mokira plays with dissonance / arrhythmic tempos — sculpting with negative space. Building patterns that suggest one direction, only to veer the other. Constantly teasing, constantly toying, constantly breaking off. Not for nothing it’s called 'clicks & cuts' ..
[Reminiscent of Morph_16+ by OL (which I’ve already featured here, i know, i know. bite me).]
Makes complete sense that it’s a ✮⋆˙MILLE PLATEAUX release; iconic label (pre-acquisition in 2008). Knobsknobsknobs, in case you’re reading this, I know you’ll enjoy the reference.
